I have been involved with the Internet from when the web first became a feature, displacing Gopher as the “easy” way to browse Internet content.  I created my first website in a text editor on a Mac back in early 1994, just a few months after the first major PC browser was released in late 1993 (NCSA Mosaic).  My first full-blown site was an interactive key to the wild orchids of Wisconsin, written while I was a PhD student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (before that I had made a few small sites for our lab and research work).  I rewrote that site in early 1996, and it is still online in that version.

In 1997 I left grad school and started an IT consulting company in Madison, WI.  The company was very successful, and in 2003 I sold it to a large national accounting firm.  During my time with the accounting firm, I moved from running their national IT operations to the position of Chief Technology Officer.  In the spring of 2007, I left the accounting firm and relocated my family from the Midwest to Los Angeles.  Currently I am the Chief Technology Officer at an investment analytics and consulting firm in Santa Monica.
